At the moment the sport of Lawn Bowling in Portugal is only played in the Algarve. Lawn bowling is a perfect recreation for the warm Algarve climate as it permits the players to bowl all through the year. Perhaps the one exception to this is during the peak of the summer when the best place is sitting on a sandy beach or in the shade! The sport is rapidly increasing in popularity with several active clubs and several others are planned to open. To this date there has been no Crown greens constructed on which to play.

As a bowling destination the Algarve is proving very successful. The suitability of the climate together with many tourist sporting facilities of the Algarve are attracting an ever increasing number of visiting Bowling Clubs from the UK and elsewhere. Also, it is not unusual to find small groups of visiting bowlers from as far away as Australia, Canada and South Africa. All the Clubs welcome visitors or visiting Clubs, and normally these guests can take part in any local competition or just play the green. Clubs stock a full range of bowls for hire at a nominal charge.
