Portugal has had a long association with marine voyages and the discoveries
in the historic past have helped to shape the world map.
Along the Algarve coast there are several Marinas. The biggest marina is at
Vilamoura. Smaller ones are to be found at Lagos, Portimão, Albufeira, Faro
and Vila Real de Santo António. Another marina is on the drawing board for
the town of Tavira.
Charter yachts and boats are available from both Vilamoura and Lagos Marinas.
Along the coast visitors can hire smaller sailing boats from Beach Sport
Centers. The Portuguese authorities have regulations and rules relating to
security when sailing and awareness of these is advisable.
